The Trusted First Call: Understanding Power of Attorney

Morgan Welker is a featured speaker at LeClair Group’s CE Live 2026, delivering a continuing-education session that helps insurance and financial professionals understand the power-of-attorney role and support clients through hard transitions.

The 5 Phases of the POA Journey™

Wherever you are, there’s a next step.

1

Prepare

Understand the role and get the right documents in place.

2

Establish

The document exists — understand it, know where it’s kept, and know when your authority begins.

3

Organize

Gather accounts, bills, and medical info to act calmly.

4

Act

Handle banks, healthcare, and benefits as the agent.

5

Transition

Power of Attorney ends at death — close out, give a final accounting, and hand off to the executor or trustee.

The truth no one tells you

A Power of Attorney isn’t just for the elderly. It’s for every adult.

The day you turn 18, no one — not even your parents — automatically has the legal right to step in for you if you can’t speak for yourself. An accident or illness doesn’t check your age or your bank balance. A Power of Attorney and a healthcare directive are how you protect what you’ve built and the people you love — before a crisis makes the choice for you.

Learn · Prepare · Navigate

Wherever you are, there’s a path forward.

Three ways to move from overwhelmed to confident. Start wherever you need to today.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked

Do I need any legal background?

None at all. Everything is written in plain language for family members and friends serving as agents. It’s education, not legal advice, and it points you to qualified counsel for state-specific questions.

Is this legal advice?

No. We teach universal principles and best practices for Power of Attorney caregiving in the U.S. Power of Attorney requirements vary by state, and nothing here replaces your own attorney, accountant, or medical professionals.

What do I get with the Program?

Ten on-demand modules and 64 lessons, the complete 30-worksheet workbook, a final exam, and the Certificate of Completion. Self-paced, with progress saved automatically.

How are the Handbooks different from the Program?

The Handbooks carry your state’s specific legal detail (Minnesota is first). The Program is national and ethics-first — pair them for the complete picture.

Which program is right for me?

If you are — or expect to become — the person acting as someone’s Power of Attorney, choose The POA Caregiver Program. If your clients or patients face the power-of-attorney role and you want to guide them well, choose The POA Caregiver Professional Program.

Is there a program for professionals?

Yes. The POA Caregiver Professional Program is for the advisors, bankers, care managers, clinicians, real estate and legal-support professionals whose clients face the power-of-attorney role. Seven self-paced modules teach you to recognize the moment, reassure with plain-language education, and refer well — with a final exam and a Certificate of Completion. It is education, not legal advice.

Can you speak to our clients or team?

Yes. A Client Education Session is a short, plain-language talk for your clients and their families about serving as an agent under a Power of Attorney, priced by attendance with optional printed Handbooks for the room. See options and book on the Speaking page.
